Began Koei-Kan Karate Do in 1977 – Drayton Plains, MI

Began studying exclusively under O’Sensei Brian Frost 1985

Opened Academy of Koei-Kan Karate-Do in Utica, MI – 1986

            Now in Shelby Township, MI

 7 yrs of International Koei-Kan Competition - includes

• 4 - Grand Championships (Full-Contact “Bogu”)
• Multiple National/International Championships in:
  • Kumite – (Non Full-Contact Fighting)
  • Kata – (Forms)
  • Weapons – (Weapon Forms)
    • Including championships with all 5 Koei-Kan weapons.
      • (Nunchaku, Bo, Sai, Tonfa & Nichogama)

Sensei Mason also

• Co-Championed (Along with Sensei Pat Ciser) the International USA – Greece Kumite Championships Held in Athens, Greece.
• Competed, taught, trained, and demonstrated across the US.
• Was the first instructor to host a countrywide Koei-Kan Karate-Do Warrior Training Camp (1994)
  • The “Bushi Gashuku” –  A weekend event that held a day and a half of rigorous physical training -  testing courage and showcasing fortitude while forging spirits as well as longtime friendships. “If you were there – you remember”
  • In addition, he has hosted 5 “Senso to Heiwa” (“War & Peace”) Camps in Michigan
  • Developed “Tokun – Man Waza” – 10,000 Technique training (very - Intense ten week training to accelerate “Conceptual Principle Understanding & Practice”)
  • Sits on the State of Michigan Koei-Kan Karate-Do Board of Directors
  • Is a member of the USA Koei-Kan Karate-Do Board of Directors
  • Authored the “Koei-Kan Karate-Do Instructor Training Manual” which served to solidify teaching methods at both the Utica and Shelby Township Michigan Dojo.
  • Produced two instructional DVD’s :
    • “Instruction the Basics of Koei-Kan Karate-Do – The Mason Method”

• “Nage No Kata (Basic Take-Down and Throwing Forms) of Koei-Kan Karate-Do”
